Androgenetic Alopecia and Theradome

Androgenetic Alopecia called Male and Female Pattern Baldness (MPB and FPB) effects many people. Androgenetic Alopecia is primarily a genetic disorder involving abnormal levels of hormones. These include DHT and those produced by the Thyroid gland.

If you have concerns about any underlying medical issues, it's best to rule them out before starting Androgenetic Alopecia Treatment. The positive results from using the Theradome device can then progress as expected. However we recommend seeking medical advice if you are concerned there may be another issue causing your hair loss.

According to the American Hair Loss Association, the most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary hormonal condition called androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. The conversion of the male hormone testosterone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) actually shrinks your hair follicles. While it is more common in men, it is also present at lower levels in women.

Ovarian cysts, pregnancy, menopause, and birth control pills dosed with a high androgen index, can trigger androgenetic alopecia in women. The symptoms of the disease can appear as diffuse thinning of the hair. You can also experience distinct bald spots.

Is there such a thing as hair loss shampoos for Androgenetic Alopecia?

‘Shampoos will not treat a hair loss issue, such as androgenetic alopecia. This is because you wash them off immediately and they are not on the scalp or hair follicles long enough. "Hair growth shampoos” mislead a lot of people with good marketing.

‘However, volumising shampoos can be very beneficial for people with fine or thinning hair as they add immediate volume. This can be a very important psychological boost. Look for ingredients such as thickening proteins, which will add immediate bulk to strands.

That said, frequent shampooing is important to hair growth. This is because it helps to keep the scalp environment clean and in good condition. A healthy scalp encourages the growth of healthy strands. A flaky scalp can cause hair loss, so it is important to keep your scalp clear. If you have a scaly scalp, look for a shampoo that is specifically geared towards clearing flaking and itching.
